Oh My Blog! - March Edition - Life In The Mum's Lane

Oh My Blog is a monthly interview series, where fellow bloggers come together to

answer a series of questions on a specific theme. This is a chance to get acquainted with a whole range of bloggers, some of whom you may not have heard of before, and learn a little more about them!

This month, the theme is Mums (because it’s Mother’s Day today!) and we’re hosting Emma from Life In The Mum’s Lane.

1. Introduce us to your mum. What’s her name? What does she do? Reveal her age if you dare!

My mum is Mary and she is 63 and recently retired.

2. What’s the one thing your mum always used to say to you?

We didn't have a particular family saying. At bedtime my mum would say "Up the apple and pears" though.

3. Someone’s playing your mum in a film. Who is it and why?

Goldie Hawn as she is a warm, smiley, slightly scatty lady.

4. She’s won the lottery. What’s the first thing your mum buys for herself?

A home. My mum is in rental property so would love her own home and to be mortgage/rent free. My mum isn't overly bothered by possessions although loves her laptop and cherished teddies. She'd probably treat herself to a new laptop and headphone. A new car for her partner and give the rest to friends and family.

5. What embarrassing story about you does she always tell when you meet new people?

Nothing springs to mind. I was a good child ha ha! Maybe when I was dressed as a candy cane in a school christmas show.

6. What are your plans for Mother’s Day this year?

We haven't made any yet. My mum used to live in Devon so we didn't see each other. She moved last year so hopefully we can all go for a meal together.

7. What’s her favourite TV show at the moment?

Call the Midwife and The Walking Dead.

8. What's the biggest or most important thing that your mum inspired you to do?

To be independent and thoughtful.

9. Your round at the bar! What’s your mum drinking?

A nice red wine or southern comfort and lemonade.

10. What’s the biggest difference between you and your mum?

I'm more of a planner and outspoken although neither of us like confrontation and try to avoid.

11. Most important question of the lot. What is your mum’s stance on 50 Shades of Grey? Does she love it? Hate it? Not even know what it is?

I have no idea! I'll have to ask her. I saw the first film and would watch the rest just for Jamie Dornan but I'm not that bothered.

12. What’s your favourite memory of your mum?

It's a sad/happy memory of visiting my nan in hospital. My mum was always so kind, patient and strong when my nan had cancer. Sadly she passed away but on the last night she waved to us. Another favourite for my whole court was when my mum worked at the chocolate factory and on Friday's she'd return from work with bags & bags of chocolates. My house was very popular on Fridays.

13. What do you think your mum was like as a kid?

Shy and kind. I inherited her shyness but as I became older it receded. I used to blush having my name read on the register.

14. Cast your mind back a bit; what was the thing you did as a child or teenager that made your mum the angriest she has ever been with you?

When I was 7 or 8 we were at a neighbour’s house and the grown ups were in the living room and a few of us (I was the oldest) were playing in the kitchen. I'm not sure how it occurred but we were left with a baby which I dropped! I blame the adults but I got in big trouble. My mum wasn't angry but disappointed when I started smoking at 16 and very surprised when I came home from town at 17 with my tongue pierced!

15. Finally, what’s the BEST piece of advice your mum ever gave to you?

You can never please everyone.
